HUBMOTORS AND SUPPLIES

Maximum power with fewer moving parts for combat robotics weapons!

RDY-5536 HUBMOTOR TRANSPARENT

HUBMOTORS

The basic concept of a hubmotor for combat robotics is very simple.  Instead of a weapon attached to an axle and driven by a motor and belt or similar, the motor is part of the weapon, and the weapon is attached directly to the bell of the motor, and since the motor is an outrunner, the outside of the motor and the weapon mounted to it all rotate.

Safety First!

Even small combat bots can be very destructive and can pack the kinetic energy of a bullet.  If you’re just getting started, start with a beginner bot and wait to weaponize.  Always use a test box with a bot rated “destructive”.  Click to learn more

As with any other sport, be safe!

MAGNET RINGS AND MECHANICALS!

When you are assembling your motor and weapon, you may need mechanicals like weapons shafts or shoulder bolts of some type.  If the magnets inside the motor get damaged or fragged, you can replace the magnet ring without replacing the entire motor.

Brands

We’re pleased to offer hubmotors from both Just ‘Cuz Robotics and Repeat Robotics.

We’re really happy to offer both sets of motors. Repeat Robotics and Just ‘Cuz  Robotics are close partners with ItGresa, and their motors dominate combat robotics because they have superior performance, great engineering, and are commercially available at the right price point for the sport.

We’re bringing the best!  Check it out!

Repeat Robotics AM32 Electronic Speed Controller (ESC)

ESCs

Hubmotors bring the power! Which means your Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) needs to be sized and matched appropriately. Most ESCs of the right amperage will work with these motors, however, in certain cases, the ESC from the designer has been tuned to match the motor for optimum performance.

AM32 ESCs can be tweaked to optimize performance or eliminate reverse drive. We offer programmers so that you can tweak your AM32 to your heart’s content!

Weapons

Generally, a hubmotor necessitates a customer weapon design. This is true for the Just ‘Cuz models so that the blade can lock into the hub, and the Repeat Robotics hub motors require the correct center hole and mounting holes. Take this into consideration when ordering hubmotors. We’re happy to say we now have custom weapons for wach class of motor.

The Just ‘Cuz hubmotors have a proprietary shape that locks the blade into the motor.  No shaft is necessary for the standard hubmotors, the hubmotor mounts directly to the uprights. The Hybrid hubmotors are best for undercutters and midcutters  and are mounted to the chassis using screws and a shaft.  See the product pages for more details (click the image).

The Repeat hubmotors have mounts and screws that hold the blade onto the motor.  A Repeat weapon shaft is necessary;  see above for the 1.5″ x 1/4″ weapon shaft.   Magnet rings allow you to quickly and easily replace a damaged one, instead of buying an entirely new motor. More details are available on the product pages.

Repeat Robotics indicates that any number of AM32 or BL-Heli will work with their hubmotors. They suggest that their AM32 35A ESCs are a great match for their hub motors.

RDY-5536

  • 35A: Just ‘Cuz recommends a minimum of a 35A ESC for their RDY-5536.
  • AM32: The Just ‘Cuz AM32 35A ESC has been tested successfully with the 5536 up to 4S.
  • 50A: The Just ‘Cuz Team recommends a 50A or better ESC with this motor.
  • 50A: For a 4″ weapon or greater, or greater than a 4S battery, the Just ‘Cuz Team strongly recommends the Pariah70A ESC with this motor.

Grey Skies Automation ESC programmer
With the advent of open source AM32 ESC and ever-larger motors and weapons, it becomes necessary to reprogram your AM32 or BLHeli ESC for optimum performance and to tweak certain features like reversible driving. This new ESC programmer from Grey Skies automation allows you to program up to 4 ESCs at a time (AM32 can only program one at a time currently; BLHeli supports 4 at once.)
