The E-Power Aria 70A AM32 ESC is a high-current weapon speed controller built for the demands of competitive beetleweight combat robotics. Running on AM32 — the open-source firmware successor to BLHeli_32 — the Aria 70A delivers smoother low-speed control, better torque response, and active community development that BLHeli_32, now discontinued, can no longer offer. For builders who want a capable, future-proof weapon ESC on proven hardware, this is the one. If you previously ran the FlashHobby Aria 70A, this is your replacement — same platform, better firmware.

E-Power has been manufacturing brushless ESCs and RC electronics since 2007, with CE, ROHS, and FCC certification. The Aria series represents their combat-ready line — the same platform that has been running weapon systems in beetleweight robots for years, now upgraded to AM32 firmware. The hardware is mature and well-understood; the firmware is actively maintained.

At 70A continuous on 3S-6S LiPo in a 21×42mm (0.83×1.65in) package weighing 18g (0.6oz), the Aria 70A fits where weight and space are at a premium — which is always in a 3lb robot. The aluminum heatsink cover and multilayer thickened PCB keep resistance low and thermals manageable under sustained weapon loads. Forward-only by default, with bidirectional operation available via AM32 Configurator for builders who need it.

Frequently Asked Questions
My ESC arrived with “BLHeli_32” printed on the label — is this the right product?

Yes — the E-Power Aria 70A AM32 ESC uses the same hardware as the BLHeli_32 version, and the physical label on the board reflects that. The difference is firmware only. E-Power flashes AM32 onto this hardware before it ships, but the label is not updated to reflect the firmware version. If you connect it to the AM32 Configurator, you will see AM32 firmware running on the board.

 

Is this compatible with builds that previously used the Aria 70A?

Yes — the E-Power Aria 70A runs on the same proven hardware platform that combat builders have relied on for years. If you’ve built around the Aria 70A before, this is a direct drop-in replacement. The key difference is firmware — this version runs AM32 rather than BLHeli_32. This is also a replacement for the FlashHobby Aria 70A, but with AM32 instead of BLHeli_32

 

What is AM32 and why does it matter?

AM32 is an open-source brushless ESC firmware platform and the active successor to BLHeli_32, which is no longer in development. AM32 offers smoother low-speed control, better torque response for sensorless motors, and an active development community — all of which matter in combat robotics where weapon spin-up behavior and drive feel are critical. For new builds, AM32 is the future-proof choice.

 

This says forward only — can I enable reverse?

Yes — forward-only is the default configuration, which is correct for most weapon applications. Bidirectional operation can be enabled through the AM32 Configurator using a USB programmer.

 

Do I need to program this ESC before use?

No — the Aria 70A works out of the box for brushless weapon motors in forward-only mode. Programming is optional and only needed if you want to change firmware settings such as direction, braking, PWM frequency, or throttle response. If you do want to configure it, the Pearl Grey ESC Programmer USB-C is compatible with AM32.

 

If it works without reprogramming, why would I want to reprogram it?

The sport has used off-the-shelf ESCs for years. However, if you are an advanced user and a top competitor — particularly if you are using advanced weapon motors or running this ESC as a drive ESC — changing parameters can improve performance and mitigate certain issues. Think of it as the difference between an off-the-lot car and a NASCAR: one is optimized for competition, but most of us would never need that level of tuning.

 

Does this ESC include a BEC?

No — the Aria 70A does not include a Battery Eliminator Circuit. In a typical combat robot wiring setup, receiver power is supplied by your drive ESCs or a dedicated BEC. This is standard for high-current weapon ESCs and keeps the design simple and lightweight.
