How It Works
The F4006-740KV brushless outrunner motor drives the weapon shaft via a custom 30T S3M timing pulley and a 67T Kevlar-reinforced S3M timing belt. The belt drive keeps off-axis impact forces away from the motor — a critical design choice for a weapon system that takes hits for a living. Power is managed by a 40A AM32 brushless ESC, which delivers smooth throttle response and reliably fast spin-ups whether you’re running 3S or 4S.

Does this kit include everything I need to power the NightWing weapon?
Yes — motor, ESC, pulley, belt, and hex key are all included. You'll still need a battery, receiver, and a separate 5V BEC to power your receiver, as the AM32 ESC has no onboard BEC. The mechanical weapon assembly (bearing block, shaft, weapon disc) is sold separately.
What is AM32 and why does it matter?
AM32 is a newer brushless ESC firmware that replaces BLHeli_S on compatible hardware. FingerTech runs their own customized AM32 build on this ESC, tuned specifically for weapon motor applications. In practice it means better low-end throttle control, faster and more reliable spin-ups, and smoother response compared to BLHeli. For a spinning weapon that needs to get up to speed quickly after a hit, that matters.
Can I use this electronics kit in a custom 3lb build — not just the NightWing?
Absolutely. This kit powers the weapon system in any 3lb horizontal or vertical spinner, not just the NightWing chassis. If you're building a custom undercutter, space the motor axis 46.13mm (1.82in) from the weapon axis, and use 3.18mm (1/8in) top and bottom plates with 30.35mm (1-3/16in) tall walls. Do I need a BEC and what kind?
Yes — the AM32 ESC has no onboard BEC, so you'll need a separate 5V BEC to supply power to your receiver. A standard switching UBEC rated at 5V and at least 1A is sufficient for most setups. If you're running multiple brushless ESCs with no BEC output, a dedicated UBEC is essential — without it your receiver won't power up and your robot won't respond to controls.
Can I run this kit on 4S?
Yes — the F4006 motor is rated up to 4S (14.8V) and the ESC handles up to 6S, so 4S is well within range for both. Running 4S is recommended when using a smaller diameter weapon disc for faster spin-up and more control. For a standard 10in disc, 3S is the typical pairing.
