What skill level is required to build this kit?

NightWing is an intermediate build — recommended for ages 12 and up. No cutting or drilling is required; every pilot hole is pre-drilled. Soldering is required. Quick connectors are fine for antweights, but beetleweights generate forces high enough to pop connectors loose under combat conditions. If you're new to soldering, this is a great kit to learn on — the wiring is straightforward and well-documented in the included instructions.

What's the difference between the AR500 and titanium disc?

The AR500 disc is included with the kit. It's 308g and made from the same hardened steel used in 250lb BattleBots weapons — extremely durable and hits hard. The Grade 5 titanium disc is sold separately at 172g — roughly 45% lighter. The lighter disc spins up faster, which means more aggression out of the corners and, thanks to the gyroscopic forces, a greater tendency to tip onto the blade and drive around on the weapon. Both discs mount the same way and use the same weapon assembly.

What radio equipment do I need?

A transmitter and receiver are not included. NightWing needs at least 3 channels — two for drive, one for the weapon. The FlySky T6A transmitter and receiver bundle is a solid, affordable option that works well with this kit. FingerTech ships their radios pre-configured for mixed driving on the right stick with weapon throttle on the left — the most common setup. Tank-style two-stick driving requires reprogramming via the included programming cable.

Do I need a battery charger?

A charger is not included. The kit runs a 3S LiPo which requires a balance charger. The C6D Mini AC Charger is compact, economical, and easy to carry to events — a good match for this kit.

How do I configure the ESCs?

The drive ESCs (BL40A AM32 Reversing) and weapon ESC (BL40A AM32) all run AM32 firmware. Default settings work for most builds straight out of the box. If you want to tune braking, startup power, or motor direction, AM32 can be configured via the AM32 configurator tool over a signal wire connection. FingerTech's build instructions cover the baseline setup for NightWing specifically.

What spare parts should I stock for competition?

At minimum: a spare 67T weapon belt, a spare set of carbon fiber motor mounts, and a spare NightWing screw pack. If you're running the AR500 disc, consider having the titanium disc as a backup — lighter disc, faster spin-up, and a different fight dynamic if your primary disc takes damage.
