The SSP 2.0 Beetleweight Combat Robot Kit is designed by Seth Schaffer of Just ‘Cuz Robotics — the team known for competing alongside Bloodsport on BattleBots. Built on a single-piece UHMW billet chassis, the SSP 2.0 comes with three front-end configurations (two fork options and a wedge), a battery, receiver, and custom motherboard. Anyone 10 and up can build it. Full CAD files are included and available on our site under Product Documents so you can mod, print, and make it your own.

What it is / Who it’s for
The SSP 2.0 Beetleweight Combat Robot Kit is the brushed drive edition of the popular beetleweight lifter kit from Just ‘Cuz Robotics. It’s designed for first-time and experienced builders who want a proven, competition-capable beetleweight platform with straightforward assembly, clean wiring, and a strong community behind it. More than 220 SSP 1.0 kits have competed in tournaments worldwide since 2023 — the 2.0 builds on everything learned from those.
How it works
Dual DartBox Dragon brushed drive motors and the WEKA 20A dual brushed ESC handle drive with no programming required. A 32kg-cm servo controls the lifting arm. The custom JCR Motherboard handles power distribution, switch, LED, and dual voltage BECs in one small package — keeping the build clean and troubleshooting simple.
What’s included / What you’ll need
The kit ships as a single unit with everything needed to build the robot: UHMW billet chassis, all drive and servo electronics, three front-end configurations (barbed forks, claw forks, and wedge), a 3S 550mAh LiPo battery, FS2A receiver, and the JCR Motherboard. You’ll need a radio transmitter, LiPo charger, soldering equipment, and basic tools. Need a spare battery? Our Galaxy 450mAh 3S XT30 is connector-compatible and a good event spare — slightly smaller than the included 550mAh but fits and works.
Modularity and upgrades
The SSP 2.0 was redesigned from the ground up for modularity. 3D printed motor mount inserts mean you can swap to brushless drive (Blitz Lite motors + AM32 ESCs) without replacing the chassis. The vertical spinner module attaches via a dedicated cutout in the chassis base. CAD files for all components are available under Product Documents — print your own replacement parts, design custom attachments, or modify the chassis to suit your build. Competition record
SSP kits have placed in tournaments across the US and internationally. Watch the SSP 2.0 go up against NHRL’s Rank 1 beetleweight Mako: SSP vs Mako at NHRL. There’s also an active SSP Owners Group on Facebook for build help and community support.

This robot requires a transmitter and receiver-compatible charger to operate. If you don't already have these, we suggest the FS-i6 and C6D charger, or pick up one of our bundles.

What's included in the kit?
Every SSP 2.0 kit includes everything needed to build the robot: UHMW billet chassis, dual DartBox Dragon drive motors, WEKA 20A dual brushed ESC, 32kg-cm servo, JCR Motherboard, FS2A receiver, 3S 550mAh LiPo battery, and three front-end configurations (barbed forks, claw forks, and wedge). Full CAD files for all components are included via Product Documents.
What else do I need to run it?
You'll need a radio transmitter, a LiPo charger, soldering equipment, and basic tools (4mm hex key, T15 Torx driver, needle nose pliers). Blue Loctite 242 or 243 is strongly recommended. The full list of required tools and equipment is in the assembly guide under Product Documents.
Who can build this kit?
The SSP 2.0 is designed for builders ages 10 and up. Soldering is required — adult supervision is recommended for builders under 13. Everything else can be assembled by anyone who can hold a screwdriver. Even 10 and 11-year-olds have competed successfully with SSP kits at events around the world.
What changed from SSP 1.0 to 2.0?
The 2.0 is a ground-up redesign. Key changes:

Can I upgrade to brushless drive?
Yes. If you have a 3D printer, you can print the Blitz Lite motor inserts (PETG-CF, PA-CF, or similar high-temp impact-resistant filament recommended) and add JCR-RC 35A AM32 ESCs and Blitz Lite 2850kV drive motors. You'll also need 6mm bore hubs to match the Blitz Lite's 6mm shaft. The 4S LiPo used in the Pro kit is recommended for best performance with brushless drive, though 3S will work at reduced speed. The optional 42kg-cm brushless servo is an upgrade but not required.
What's the difference between SSP 2.0 Standard and SSP 2.0 Pro?
The Pro upgrades the drivetrain to Blitz Lite brushless motors, AM32 ESCs, a 42kg-cm brushless servo, and a 4S power system — delivering more speed, power, and responsiveness. The chassis and overall layout are the same. See the full comparison on the SSP 2.0 Pro page.
Which transmitter should I use?
The SSP 2.0 Standard and Pro kits have different drive ESC setups, and that affects how you need to configure your transmitter. The Standard kit uses the WEKA ESC which has built-in drive mixing — so the transmitter must send unmixed signals and you should not program drive mixing on the radio. The Pro kit uses two separate brushless ESCs with no built-in mixing — so the transmitter must have drive mixing programmed.
Our recommendation for both kits: use an FS-i6 or a Radiomaster MT12 and configure mixing to match your kit. Both radios support on-device mixing programming, and Seth's assembly guide (under Product Documents) walks you through the setup step by step. The FS-i6 is the budget-friendly entry point; the Radiomaster MT12 is the better long-term radio if you plan to run multiple bots.
Summary: Standard kit — do not program drive mixing on the TX. Pro kit — you must program drive mixing on the TX.
