Kerfuffle 1lb Combat Robot Kit – Complete Edition
What it is / Who it’s for
Want to build a robot kit? The Complete Kerfuffle Kit includes all internals and 3D-printed chassis parts so you can start building right out of the box. It’s ideal for first-time builders, workshop leaders, and educators who want real robot-fight excitement without the high cost and risk of heavier classes.
How it works
Kerfuffle prioritizes control and reliability over destructive energy. A low wedge gets under opponents, while a simple lifter flips or destabilizes them. Pair the radio, arm the bot, and drive: the setup rewards driver skill, makes practice safe, and enables Kerfuffle-vs-Kerfuffle bouts without a full arena.
What’s included / What you’ll need
This Complete Kit includes all electronics, hardware, and 3D-printed parts — chassis, wedge, lifter, hubs, and top plate — everything you need to assemble your first 1lb plastic-antweight combat robot. You’ll only need basic tools and a LiPo charger.
Why this kit
Developed by BattleBots veteran Brandon Bennett Young and refined since 2019, Kerfuffle V2 is proven in competition and beginner-friendly. The design favors inexpensive spares, quick repairs, and smart driving habits you can scale to heavier classes later. Learn more about Brandon on his team Bone Dead Robotics page. Brandon has been designing and competing with robots since 2010.
Safety & best practices
Follow LiPo charging and storage guidelines, enable failsafes through your radio/ESC settings, and test drive on a non-slip surface before sparring. Keep fingers clear of the lifter mechanism, and always power down using a physical switch between matches.
Learn more / Guides
Step-by-step build guidance appears in Make: Magazine’s Build Your First Combat Bot. For electronics and spares, see the Maintenance tab on this page for ESCs, batteries, radios, and other parts.

Kerfuffle Kit Add-Ons:
If this is your first bot, you will need a transmitter bundle and a LiPo charger. If you want to run your bot on 3S, you will need a UBEC (Universal Battery Elimination Circuit) voltage regulator, since your servos can only handle 9v and a 3S goes to 11.4v.

Replacement & Maintenance Notes:
Routine Checks
- Inspect wheel set screws, servo horn screws, and power-switch mounting after each session.
- Verify the lifter linkages move freely and the wedge remains flat to the floor.
Replacement Parts
- Keep spare wheels, hubs, servo horns, and a printed top plate on hand.
- Common electronics like ESCs, JST leads, and the FingerTech Switch are easy to swap between bouts.
Battery & Safety
- Charge LiPos with a balance charger in a fire-safe container, never unattended.
- Store at storage voltage, and retire any pack that appears puffy or damaged.
- Always power down using the physical switch before handling.

FAQs
Do I need to 3D print the chassis?
No — the Complete Kit includes all printed parts (chassis, wedge, lifter, hubs, and top plate). If you’d rather print your own, see the Maker Edition.
Is the radio included?
Kerfuffle uses a 2.4GHz radio like the T6A with TR6A receiver, available in ItGresa’s Radio Bundle. Radios are not included in this kit.
What battery does it use?
A 2S 7.4V LiPo pack like the Galaxy 300mAh 2S. For higher voltage, use a UBEC regulator to avoid damaging the servo.
Do I need a charger?
Yes — if this is your first robot, you’ll need a LiPo charger. We recommend the C6D Smart Charger.
