Malenki Scarab ESC: “The Super Malenki”
Malenki Scarab Dual ESC with Integrated Receiver
The Malenki Scarab Dual ESC is a high-current evolution of the Malenki Nano, combining two brushed drive channels and an integrated AFHDS2A receiver on a single board. Designed for larger and higher-power combat robots, the Scarab supports higher current motors while maintaining Malenki’s simplicity, low weight, and configurability. It also provides PWM outputs to control servos or external weapon ESCs (including brushless).

Overview
Meet the Scarab: a “9A per drive channel Malenki” built for higher-current drive systems. Early testing successfully ran at 12A per channel, but the Scarab is current-limited to 9A per channel for added reliability and margin. It is larger than a standard or HV Malenki, focuses on drive control with two brushed driver channels, and includes an integrated receiver to simplify wiring and save weight.
Why builders use Malenki
Originally created for very small, weight-constrained robots, Malenki boards combine receiver + ESC functionality on a single compact PCB. Malenkis have been widely used in the UK for 150g “UK Antweight rules” robots and in the US for the 150g Fairyweight class. Over time, the Malenki family expanded from the original Nano to the HV model, and now the higher-current Scarab.
Radio protocol note
The Malenkis use the AFHDS2A radio protocol, which works with many FlySky and Turnigy transmitters. Please be aware that AFHDS is NOT the same as AFHDS2A. Example: The FS-i6 is an AFHDS2A compatible transmitter and WILL work with the Malenki. The FS-CT6B is an AFHDS compatible transmitter and WILL NOT work with the Malenki.

FAQ
What transmitters are compatible?
The Malenki Scarab uses the AFHDS2A protocol and works with many FlySky and Turnigy transmitters, including the FS-i6. Make sure that your proposed transmitter uses AFHDS2A, not AFHDS. The protocols are not interchangeable.
How do I bind the Scarab?
To bind: Out of the box it enters bind mode on power on (flashing blue light). When bound, the flashing LED will stop; you may then need to power cycle. To rebind: Power on Scarab with your transmitter off and wait 90 seconds for flashing blue light.
How do I wire drive motors and power?
Solder motors (L to left side drive, R to right side drive). Solder your power connector to PWR + and – on the Scarab (XT30 recommended).
Can I run a weapon or servo from the Scarab?
Yes. The Scarab provides PWM outputs (Channels 3 and 6 as labeled on the PCB) for servos or external ESCs (including brushless weapon ESCs). The Scarab’s brushed outputs are for drive motors.
Where can I find documentation?
Documentation is available here: Binding and Wiring Manual User Manual GitHub
