Fingertech Viper Chassis V3

Rebuild or Reimagine Your FingerTech Viper

The FingerTech Viper Chassis V3 is the OEM replacement chassis for the Viper Combat Robot Kit — now improved with smarter mounting, tougher inserts, and more build options. Use it to restore a battle-worn Viper or as a rock-solid foundation for a custom bot that still benefits from the proven Viper layout. Note that this is NOT a robot kit, only the Fingertech Viper Chassis V3.

MORE ABOUT THE FINGERTECH VIPER CHASSIS (BASEPLATE):
What it is / Who it’s for

The FingerTech Viper Chassis is the OEM replacement baseplate for the Viper combat robot—and a fantastic launchpad for custom bots. Use it to bring a bent or tired Viper back to “straight and square,” or start a fresh design on a proven footprint. Think of it as a builder’s scaffold: a rigid, square backbone that gets you driving fast so you can spend time where it wins matches—weapon geometry, traction, and center of gravity.

Build it your way (beginner-friendly)

The Viper platform is meant to be sawed, drilled, modified, and upgraded—this chassis is no exception. No printer? No problem. It’s a competition-ready foundation out of the box. Have printing capability? Add TPU bumpers, UHMW side rails, custom wedgelets, or mirrored-weapon mounts. You preserve your weight budget where it counts (armor and weapon) while the chassis keeps everything square and serviceable.

Chassis as a platform
  • Start square, iterate fast: Standard Viper hole pattern = reliable drive in hours, not days.
  • Armor your way: Use the new side/rear holes for UHMW rails or TPU bumpers; tune thickness to your weight cap.
  • Weapon experimentation: Extra base points let you mirror or double servos/weapons and test new linkages without a new frame.
  • Drive feel, not just speed: Swap motor ratios/tires to balance push vs. agility; keep wiring short and low for better recovery after hits.
  • Serviceability wins events: Threaded inserts + common hardware = five-minute field repairs with spare panels and pre-cut leads.
  • Scale your ambition: Run it stock—or add TPU skirts, UHMW wedgelets, or a custom top. Same chassis, faster iteration.
Why aluminum here?

Custom-formed 6061-T6 aluminum is light, stiff, and far more durable than plastic or typical 3D-printed frames. It shrugs off big hits, resists thread tear-outs thanks to beefier inserts, and protects alignment so your bot tracks true under load—critical for both spinners and lifters.

What’s new in this version
  • Secondary position for the power/charge switch (cleaner layouts).
  • Holes for custom side & rear armor panels.
  • Extra base mounting points for doubling/mirroring weapons & servos.
  • Beefier 6-32 threaded inserts that won’t pop out under impact.
How it works

The standardized Viper hole pattern lines up motors, electronics, and armor without re-drilling. The added holes invite experimentation: move your switch, bolt on side armor, mirror a servo, or try a new weapon orientation—while the base stays square and weight-efficient.

What’s included / What you’ll need

One OEM baseplate with 10× 6-32 threaded inserts installed. Reuse your electronics and panels, or pair with new armor. Plan on 10 pcs 6-32 × 0.375″ screws (not included) and a 5/64in hex wrench. A dab of threadlocker on final assembly is recommended.

Version availability

The V2 baseplate is no longer offered.

Installation

Transfer your drivetrain, ESC/receiver, battery, and armor. Confirm free wheel rotation, tidy wire routing, and weapon clearance before final torque. Re-check fasteners after the first shakedown match.

Safety & best practices

Test-fit all mounting points before powering up. Keep wires clear of gearboxes and belts. If you mirror weapons or add custom armor, verify weight and safety per your event’s rules.

Fingertech Viper V3 Chassis Features:
  • 6061-T6 aluminum baseplate: light, rigid, and impact-tough compared to plastic or typical 3D-printed frames.
  • Builder’s scaffold: start square and iterate fast — the proven Viper hole pattern gives drop-in fitment for motors, electronics, and armor.
  • Weight budget where it counts: put grams into armor and weapon, not fighting a flimsy frame.
  • New version upgrades: secondary power/charge switch location, side & rear armor holes, extra base points for mirrored/doubled servos or weapons, and beefier 6-32 inserts that resist pull-out.
  • Serviceability wins events: threaded inserts + common 6-32 hardware = fast field repairs with spare panels and pre-cut leads.
  • Custom-ready: supports TPU bumpers, UHMW side rails, custom wedgelets, alternate tops, and experimental linkages.
  • Consistent drive feel: square geometry reduces drivetrain bind and keeps handling predictable after big hits.
  • Event-proven footprint: compatible with official Viper add-ons (Lifter, Horizontal Spinner, Tail Spinner, Vertical Spinner).
  • Beginner-friendly: no printer required; assemble with basic tools and upgrade over time.
  • Standard hardware: 10× 6-32 threaded inserts; typical 6-32 × 0.375" screws; 5/64in hex wrench.

Frequently Asked Questions about the FingerTech Viper blank chassis V3
Will this baseplate fit my existing Viper?

Yes. It uses the standard Viper mounting pattern, so motors, armor, and the power/charge switch line up. It’s compatible with official add-ons (Lifter, Horizontal Spinner, Tail Spinner, Vertical Spinner).  THe main differences are beefed up fasteners and more built-in mounting points.

Can I use it for a custom bot that isn’t a Viper?

Absolutely. Many teams use this as a rigid “builder’s scaffold.” Added side/rear armor holes and extra base points make it easy to mount UHMW/TPU armor or mirror/double servos and weapons. Check your event’s rules for custom configurations.

What screw lengths do I need for the armor panels?

Four 6-32 × 0.50" screws for the front panel and six 6-32 × 0.375" screws for the top armor. If your panel stack-up differs, match the length to your thickness.

What changed in the new version?

Secondary switch position, holes for custom side/rear armor, extra base points for mirrored/doubled servos or weapons, and beefier 6-32 threaded inserts that resist pull-out.

What are the material and dimensions?

6061-T6 aluminum, 0.057 in (1.45 mm) thick; 6.5 in × 5.125 in × 1.18 in (16.5 cm × 13 cm × 3 cm); 4.5 oz (130 g).

What tools do I need?

Basic hand tools, a 5/64" hex wrench (6-32 screws), and a 0.050" hex for motor screws. Medium threadlocker is recommended on final assembly.
